Looks
Luxury vinyl plank looks like wood flooring. Luxury vinyl tile usually looks like stone and ceramic flooring, but brands that look like wood are available, too. Both LVP and LVT are composed of four layers of materials. The transparent wear layer protects the high-tech image layer. For maximum durability, be sure to choose a product that has a 20+ mil surface layer. The backing layer cushions the core layer. Any product that has a stone plastic composite or a wood-plastic composite core is waterproof. SPC and WPC luxury vinyl flooring tolerate standing water.
Installation
Most often, LVP is designed to click and lock together. This design allows the floor to float above the subfloor rather than being attached to it. Therefore, LVP can be installed on cement subfloors as well as most existing hard surface floors. LVT is more likely to come in glue-down brands, although some tile also needs no attachment to a subfloor. A third option, loose lay vinyl, butts together. Planks and tiles remain in place by using friction to grip the floor.
