Carpet is constructed in several different ways, from a variety of different fibers. Understanding the pros and cons of each can help you choose which carpet to install.

Cut Pile: Traditional cut pile achieves its durability through the type of fiber used, density of tufts and the amount of twist in the yarn. Highly twisted yarn will hold its shape longer, making it a smart carpet for high-traffic areas.

  • Textured Plush – Very versatile. Textured surfaces help hide footprints and vacuum marks. Good style for busy households. A great “whole-house” carpet.
  • Saxony – Refined surface. Works well with traditional interiors. Ideal for living and dining rooms.
  • Friezé – Forms a “curly” textured surface because yarns are extremely twisted. Has an informal look. Helps minimize footprints and vacuum marks.
  • Plush (Velvet) – Has a dense luxurious feel. Shows footprints and vacuum marks easily. Best for low traffic areas and formal rooms.
Loop Pile: Loops are the same height, creating an informal look. This style generally lasts a long time in high-traffic areas. Many of today’s popular Berber styles are level loop styles with flecks of a darker color on a lighter background.

Multi-level loop pile: This style usually has two to three different loop heights to create pattern effects, providing good durability and a more casual look.

Cut-loop pile: This carpet style combines cut and looped yarns. It provides a variety of surface textures, including sculptured effects of squares, chevrons and swirls. The multicolor effects hide soil and stains.

And of course, then there is color. Carpeting comes in a rainbow of colors. Carpet can be neutral, complementing other elements in the room. Or it can be a bold color or pattern, creating a focal point. The choice is yours.

New stain and soil-resistant technology makes today’s lighter colored carpets easier to clean, while darker colors, tweeds and textures help soil marks.

Commercial Carpet

Commercial carpet is available in many of the same styles, colors and patterns as residential carpet, but is constructed to withstand higher foot traffic, and last longer. Just ask us about your options.

Carpet Padding

We’ll help you choose the best carpet padding for your situation as well. Carpet and carpet padding go hand in hand. The right cushion acts as a shock absorber to increase durability, while adding insulation and acting as a sound buffer, making a room warmer and quieter.

Carpeting will be labeled with the recommended thickness of carpet padding that should be used during installation. Using the wrong carpet padding can negatively affect the carpet in several ways including: diminished appearance, wrinkling and buckling, separation of the carpet seams and breakdown of the carpet structure itself. In addition, improper carpet padding selection also may void the carpet manufacturer’s warranties.
