FAQ From Baltimore's Finest Flooring
These are answers to some frequently asked questions. You may e-mail us with your question and we would be happy to respond.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY CARPETS?

We recommend vacuuming frequently, especially high traffic areas. Vacuuming removes dirt particles which cut your fibers and cause carpet to look worn out. Every 2 years or whenever your carpet looks a little shabby or dirty, get a professional to deep steam clean your carpet. Never rent a shampooer because they simply leave too much soap in your carpets after cleaning. We recommend Brandon’s Carpet Cleaning; you can reach them at 410-686-5480

WHAT TYPE OF CARPET IS BEST FOR ME?

That depends on its use. High traffic areas need dense pile construction or high end berbers. Seldom used areas can use a lower quality carpet and generally can use a lighter color. Very light colors, including berbers, show dirt and traffic patterns more readily.

WHAT IS THE MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CARPET CONCEPTS AND "HOME CENTERS"?

Surpisingly, our prices are similar and even lower in many cases. Home Center type box stores are geared to do it yourselfers; they don’t employ high quality installers or knowledgeable salespersons. Carpet Concepts kills all other companies with their use of the best installers available, including ceramic, hardwood, laminate, vinyl and carpet. We are experts in floor covering; that’s all we do, and we do it well. Also, our salespersons are highly trained and care about our customers; they even remember their names when they see them out in the community.

SHOULD I PUT HARDWOOD IN A KITCHEN?

That depends. Can you keep your little ones from damaging it? Can you keep water off of it? Hardwood can dent and scratch and excess water will damage it. While it is repairable, it is also the most difficult floor to care for. We don’t recommend it for very active families, however, for less active families it looks great and is very warm and rich.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY HARDWOOD?

Let me say it this way: never, ever, use any cleaner on it except a manufacturer’s cleaning product (like Bruce Hardwood floor cleaner, for example). Follow the directions on the label. We recommend spraying a swifter with the cleaner and then wiping the floor with the swifter.

IS CERAMIC HARD AND COLD?

To some extent, yes! However, it is also very durable and easy to clean. Also, it looks fabulous with its exciting array of styles and colors. To offset the cold, we suggest having us install a heat matt under it, which will keep it warm and toasty. And in front of sinks and other areas where you might stand a lot, keep an area rug handy to soften the hardness.

DO I HAVE TO TEAR OUT MY EXISTING KITCHEN FLOOR BEFORE I INSTALL A NEW ONE?

Most times, no. Most existing floors can remain in place and have new floors installed right over top of them.

IS VINYL STILL A GOOD CHOICE FOR KITCHENS?

Vinyl is still a good value. It is less expensive than other floors. In the last 5 years there have been unheard of improvements in quality and design. It is much harder to tear or wear out and easier to clean. Plus, much of it looks so much like wood or ceramic that it can fool even us experts.

IS LAMINATE (LIKE PERGO STYLE FLOORS) A GOOD CHOICE?

Laminate is a very popular choice for active families. It looks very much like real wood or ceramic and is extremely durable. Unlike hardwood, it seldom scratches or dent.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET MY NEW FLOOR INSTALLED?

For custom ordered products, it takes 2-4 weeks. First, we’ll measure and give you an estimate. Then, materials need to be ordered and delivered and then we’ll call to see how your schedule looks for installation.
